Summary

God has been speaking to His creation from the beginning. Do you want to hear from Him? The Bible is God’s Word to us. We must treat the Bible as the treasure it is.

  • From the beginning, God has been speaking. God’s speaking is proof of His all-powerful and relational character.
    • God spoke at creation (Genesis 1:3-29).
    • God spoke in the garden (Genesis 2:16-18).
    • God spoke throughout the Old Testament (Hebrews 1:1).
    • God spoke through Jesus (John 1:14).
    • God speaks through His Word (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
  • If God is speaking, we must prioritize listening. We must treasure His Word to us in order to be rich in intimacy with the Lord.
    • Prioritize hearing the Word (Luke 11:28).
    • Prioritize reading the Word (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
    • Prioritize meditating on the Word (Psalm 119:97).
  • Are we hearing more from God or from our enemy? Satan is referred to as the father of lies (John 8:44), so he is also speaking to us.
    • The enemy is lying to us about God, ourselves, and our sin.
    • God’s Word tells the truth about God, ourselves, and our sin.
    • Our exposure to God’s truth needs to outweigh our exposure to the enemy’s lies.

Discussion and Application

  • What specific habits in your life reflect your desire to hear from God?
  • What lies do you need to confess you’ve believed this week?
  • What steps can you take today to prioritize God’s Word in your daily routine?
  • As you read God’s Word, pause to ask Him these four questions:
    • God, what do You want me to know?
    • God, what do I need to confess?
    • God, what do You want me to pray?
    • God, what do You want me to do?
