As we’re celebrating 25 years of Watermark, we’re exploring different parts of our history with 25 stories celebrating God's faithfulness. What began as a small group of believers has grown into a church family committed to living out the gospel in every aspect of life. Over the past 25 years, Watermark has not only been a place where we’ve gathered to hear God’s Word but also a place where we’ve learned to actively live out our faith in tangible ways. This week, we’re taking a look at two organizations that were conceptualized and put into action through Watermark–Watermark Health and Watermark Community Development Corporation.
While they are two completely different organizations, the Lord has greatly used Watermark Health, Watermark Community Development Corporation (Watermark CDC), and their overlap to continuously point the people of Dallas to Christ.
Their actions, service, and growth reflect Watermark’s desire and prayers to make disciples, both inside and outside the church walls. Through the two organizations, the Lord has brought hope, healing, and transformation to countless individuals in the Dallas area.
Watermark Health started in 2013 as a response to unmet healthcare needs and has grown to a multi-site, multi-service line outreach. Compassionate healthcare solutions are delivered alongside gospel conversations. It offers free medical services, health education, and a strong network of volunteer professionals who serve those in the community with limited access to healthcare. The expansion of Watermark Health over the last ten years is a powerful testimony to how God is using his people. The clinic on Skillman serves Dallas’s large refugee population with over 30 languages–they’ve seen patients from over 120 different countries! From providing preventative care and wellness checks to early prenatal care and dental services, Watermark Health is an opportunity to care for people in many ways.
Similarly, Watermark Community Development Corporation, which started in 2020, has played a crucial role in fostering economic and social transformation in the surrounding neighborhoods. Through job training programs, financial education classes, and small business support, Watermark CDC has empowered many who face significant barriers to success. Community partnerships with organizations providing relief and rehab resources allows Watermark CDC to fully focus on development-based solutions. Whether through educational initiatives or support for struggling families, Watermark CDC’s efforts have had a lasting impact on the community, helping hundreds of people break cycles of poverty. It’s not just about providing resources but about offering hope in Christ and relational discipleship.
The Lord has been faithful to connect these organizations with the Watermark church family on a daily basis. While someone may walk into a clinic for a specific physical ailment or need, they may also be pointed to Watermark Community Development Corporation for help with a job, and through both organizations invited to church and ongoing ministries. The Lord’s hand is also evident in the location proximity of these organizations. Because of their origins at Watermark, it just made sense that one of the best locations for the Watermark Mobile Clinic would be in the parking lot of Watermark South Dallas–where the community can also attend Watermark CDC programs during the week and worship services on Sundays.
The success of Watermark Health and Watermark Community Development Corporation is measured not just by the tangible outcomes but also by the countless lives touched through the relationships built.
While separately funded from Watermark Community Church, both organizations are an integral part of the Watermark family and have played a significant role in its history from the very beginning. As we look back, we cannot overlook the tangible ways God’s people are living out His love and serving as His hands and feet right here in Dallas. We are deeply grateful to the Watermark members who have faithfully invested their resources and countless hours into Watermark Health and Watermark Community Development Corporation.
